Artist Statement
As a Chicano artist, scholar, and co-founder of the Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery, my work is a vibrant tapestry woven from the threads of my life’s journey between Los Angeles and Seattle. Each piece is a heartfelt narrative that speaks to the Chicano experience, a canvas where love meets loss, resilience rises from oppression, and joy and sorrow dance in vivid colors.
My art is a grito—a loud cry—celebrating Chicano culture and echoing the voices of those unheard. It delves into the rich tapestry of Chicano/a and Indigenous culture, social justice, pop culture, and satire. Through my work, I honor the legacy of my ancestors, stand in solidarity with my fellow Chicanx artists seeking visibility, and inspire the younger generation and our elders to see their reflections in the art world. This is more than my passion; it’s a tribute to our collective history and a beacon for our future.
